Replace a missing tooth

Dental Implants

A step-by-step evaluation for replacing a missing tooth with an implant, crown, bridge, or denture.

The implant is the part you do not see: a small post placed in the jaw to support a replacement tooth. Once it has healed, it can hold a crown for one missing tooth or help support a bridge or denture.

Planning comes before treatment

An implant is usually a process rather than a single appointment. We’ll check your gums, available bone, bite, health history, and the space left by the missing tooth. Diagnostic images help us see what cannot be judged by looking in the mouth alone.

If an implant looks promising, we’ll map out who will handle each stage and how the appointments fit together. If another dentist or specialist will place the implant, we will coordinate with that office and plan the tooth that will attach to it. We can also compare an implant with a bridge or removable option, including differences in timing, care, and cost.
